Our Story

JLPTMatome was initially launched in May 2020 with the simple goal of providing accessible and helpful resources to learners preparing for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Over time, it evolved to include a variety of educational materials, from podcasts and articles to quizzes and interactive pages on hiragana and katakana.

In June 2025, JLPTMatome evolved into its current form—version 2—with the ambitious vision of becoming the ultimate platform for all Japanese learners worldwide. Our goal is to streamline your study process by eliminating the need for multiple resources, software, or expensive books. Whether you're mastering kanji with our integrated flashcard system, enriching your vocabulary, deepening your understanding of grammar, or practicing with the world's first comprehensive JLPT exam simulation tool, JLPTMatome has you covered.

Why JLPTMatome?

The idea behind JLPTMatome was born from personal experience. Having studied and worked in Japan, I encountered firsthand the challenges involved in preparing efficiently for the JLPT exam. The process was often expensive, fragmented, and time-consuming—requiring numerous software installations, purchases of costly textbooks, and endless searches for trustworthy resources.

Driven by these challenges and encouraged by the initial popularity of the first version of the website, I decided to create JLPTMatome v2, focusing explicitly on delivering high-quality, comprehensive, and user-friendly resources all within one platform.

Our Mission

Our mission is clear: to empower every Japanese language learner by providing a unified, intuitive, and effective study environment. JLPTMatome aims to foster a supportive global community of learners, breaking down barriers of accessibility, language, and cost. As part of our ongoing commitment, we plan to expand our offerings into multiple languages, starting soon with French.
