What it means
までだ follows a verb in the ta-form to minimize or limit the significance of an action. It often means that the subject did nothing more than perform the stated action, or that the stated action is the only relevant fact. The construction can sound defensive, matter-of-fact, or intentionally modest depending on context. Its polite counterpart is までです.
