What it means
等 means “etc.” or “and so on.” It follows a noun to indicate that the noun is one example from a larger, unstated group. It can also follow a plain-form verb when listing actions as examples, often with して. The form may simply list examples, but depending on context it can also make the listed item sound unimportant or dismissible.
Usage note
等 is commonly written as など in ordinary modern writing. The kanji form can feel more formal or literary, and 等 should not be confused with といった, which introduces a more explicit example such as “things like ...”.
How to use it
私は旅行に必要な服等を準備します。
I prepare clothes and other things needed for the trip.
週末は公園を散歩する等して、気分転換をします。
On weekends, I refresh my mood by doing things such as taking walks in the park.
