What it means
なければいけない expresses an obligation or necessity: someone must do something or has to do something. It follows the negative stem of a verb, such as しな- from する or 食べな- from 食べる. The familiar form is common in everyday speech and writing, while the polite counterpart なければいけません is used when speaking politely.
Usage note
Although it contains a negative-looking form, なければいけない means that an action is required, not that it must not be done. Similar expressions include なくてはいけない and ないといけない.
