What it means
または means “or” or “either … or …” and presents two or more alternatives. It can connect nouns, noun phrases, or complete clauses. It is more formal and more common in writing, notices, instructions, and official language than in casual conversation.
Usage note
または is often replaced by か in everyday speech. When it connects clauses, each clause normally keeps its own natural predicate form; the conjunction itself does not change for politeness.
