What it means
だけ means “only” or “just.” It limits the noun, adjective, or verb phrase before it and shows that nothing more than that applies. It commonly appears with nouns, adjectives, and plain-form verbs. With a noun or a na-adjective, だけ follows the noun or the な-form directly; with an i-adjective or verb, it follows the ordinary form.
Usage note
With nouns and na-adjectives, だけ can resemble the particle しか, but しか normally requires a negative predicate, while だけ does not. When だけ modifies a complete action or statement, the final copula changes for politeness, such as だけだ and だけです.
