What it means
ように follows a verb phrase to express a goal or desired result: “so that” or “in order to.” It is especially common with negative verbs and verbs describing ability, perception, or a state, because these results are not usually directly controlled. The action in the main clause is performed with that goal in mind. The following verb can be made familiar or polite, while ように itself does not change.
Usage note
ように also has other meanings, such as “like” or “as,” in different constructions. Do not confuse this purpose pattern with ような or ように used for comparison.
