What it means
ところがある indicates that a person, thing, or situation has a particular aspect or tendency. It often presents a noticeable, imperfect, unexpected, or evaluatively significant characteristic rather than making a neutral statement of existence. With verbs, it commonly describes a recurring behavioral tendency; with nouns and adjectives, it highlights one side or feature of the subject. The construction is often used when acknowledging a quality while avoiding an absolute judgment.
Usage note
ところがある should not be confused with ところが meaning “however.” It also differs from ことがある, which expresses an occasional event or experience; ところがある focuses on a characteristic or tendency.
