What it means
それにしても means “even so” or “nevertheless.” It introduces a speaker’s reaction, judgment, or comment that remains valid despite the situation just mentioned. It often signals surprise, admiration, criticism, or emphasis, and it is commonly placed at the beginning of a sentence followed by a comma. Because it is a fixed connective expression, it does not change form for politeness.
Usage note
それにしても is often used to comment on a previous situation rather than to present a simple logical contrast. Do not confuse it with それでも, which more directly means “even then” or “despite that” and can connect two opposing events or choices.
