What it means
それとも means “or” or “or else” and connects alternatives, especially in questions that ask someone to choose between two possibilities. It usually appears between two clauses or choices, with the first alternative stated before it and the second alternative after it. The alternatives can describe actions, states, or answers.
Usage note
それとも is especially common in questions and choice prompts. For a simple alternative in a statement, または or あるいは may be more natural.
