What it means
〇〇べきではない means that someone should not do something or that doing it is considered wrong or inappropriate. It expresses the speaker’s strong judgment, advice, or sense of duty rather than a simple personal preference. It normally follows a verb in the dictionary form. The polite counterpart is 〇〇べきではありません.
Usage note
べきではない is stronger and more judgmental than a gentle suggestion. It is not usually used for an official prohibition; use てはいけない when a rule or authority says that an action is forbidden. With する, both するべきではない and the shorter すべきではない are possible.
