What it means
ございます is the very polite form of ある, meaning that an inanimate thing exists or is located somewhere. It is also used in the formal copular pattern でございます, meaning “to be.” It is common in announcements, customer service, formal introductions, and set expressions. The meaning stays the same as the familiar forms, but the level of politeness is much higher.
Usage note
ございます is more formal than the usual polite form あります. In everyday polite conversation, あります or です is generally more natural, while ございます is preferred in formal or service-related speech and in expressions such as ありがとうございます.
