What it means
そして connects two clauses to show that the second event follows the first, or that the second statement follows as a result. It can mean “and then,” “and,” or “thus,” depending on context. It is a neutral connective and does not change form for politeness; the clauses around it can be made polite when needed.
Usage note
そして is more common in organized speech and writing than in casual conversation, where speakers often use simpler forms such as それから for “and then.” Do not confuse it with そうして, which means “in that way” or “and then” while referring to a manner or process.
