What it means
を marks the direct object of a verb: the person or thing that the action directly affects. It usually comes after a noun or noun phrase and before the verb. For example, in 「りんごを食べる」, を shows that an apple is what someone eats. It does not itself show whether the sentence is familiar or polite; the verb ending expresses that distinction.
Usage note
を is normally pronounced お, although it is written を. Do not confuse it with で, which commonly marks the place where an action occurs or the means used for an action.
