What it means
くなる and になる describe a change into a new state or condition. Use くなる after an い-adjective, changing the adjective’s final い to く. Use になる after a な-adjective or a noun. The change can happen naturally, gradually, or because of some cause. The familiar form ends in なる, while the polite form ends in なります.
Usage note
Do not use になる directly after an い-adjective. For an い-adjective, use its く-form before なる; な-adjectives and nouns use に before なる.
