What it means
よりほかない expresses that no alternative remains except carrying out the action described by the preceding dictionary-form verb. It often conveys reluctant acceptance of an unavoidable decision and is more formal and written than ordinary expressions such as しかない. The conventional polite counterpart is よりほかありません. Direct attachment to a noun is restricted and should not be treated as a general attachment pattern.
Usage note
よりほかない normally follows a verb in the dictionary form. Do not freely attach it directly to nouns; when a noun expresses the necessary action, use a verb phrase such as 方法を採用するよりほかない.
