What it means
すぎる expresses that an action, quality, or condition exceeds a suitable or expected degree. It attaches to a verb masu-stem, an i-adjective stem, or a na-adjective directly. The result can mean “do too much,” “be too [adjective],” or “be excessively [na-adjective].” In familiar speech, the ending is すぎる; in polite speech, it is すぎます.
Usage note
With i-adjectives, remove the final い before adding すぎる, so 重い becomes 重すぎる. すぎる does not normally attach directly to a noun; express excessive quantity with a construction such as nounが多すぎる instead.
