What it means
な-adjectives describe qualities or states such as safety, convenience, and simplicity. Before a noun, they use な, as in 静かな場所 (a quiet place). When they are the predicate of a sentence, they use a copula instead: だ in familiar speech and です in polite speech. Their negative and past forms are made by changing the copula, while the adjective itself usually stays the same.
Usage note
Do not use な when the な-adjective is the predicate of a sentence. Use a copula such as だ or です instead. The な is used before a noun in an attributive phrase, not as part of the predicate ending.
